HARMONY DAY

We celebrated Harmony Day at Sirius College on 21st March. The school was decorated in orange balloons and posters and it was great to see our students dressed in their national costumes and in the colour of Harmony Day, orange!

The message of Harmony Day is ‘everyone belongs’, and we aimed to engage our students in a variety of activities focused on cultural respect and diversity, and to foster a sense of “belonging in” for everyone. Students completed multicultural activities in classrooms, there were cultural performances and the parents organised food stalls and traditional displays from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Afghan Turkey and Australia. Lunchtime was spent enjoying foods from different cultures. We raised $413 which will be donated to The Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

Also thanks to all the parents who came to the school to celebrate Harmony Day with us. A very big thank you to all parents who contributed to the food stalls by sending food and especially the mums who helped us organize and run the stalls. We could not have done this without your help. We can't wait to do it all again next year, bigger and better!!!

Rubbish Free Lunch

The SRC is trying to encourage the students to have rubbish free lunch boxes. We want to start to make every Thursday in Term 2 to be rubbish free lunch box days. Rubbish in our lunch boxes like tin foil, cling wrap and the plastic bags which students dispose of, cause pollution. We, as an SRC are working towards the goal that rubbish free lunch boxes will not be a Thursday activity but something that we as a school community participate in every day.

The snacks and lunches should be put in rubbish free snack boxes or containers.
